What exactly is Academic Life Coaching?

In general terms, coaching describes a professional partnership in which the coach and client work together to help the client increase self-awareness, generate learning, and identify and accomplish meaningful goals. Academic Life Coaching adds another dimension in which coach and client explore a variety of skills specifically aimed at students. Academic Life Coaching will: a) help you understand your learning style and apply it to maximize learning efficiency; b) help you understand your motivations so that you can become more proactive and engaged; c) enable you to reduce stress by creating effective systems; d) boost your level of confidence and excitement about your future goals & plans. To be clear, I am not a therapist/counselor, mentor, or consultant. My job is not to tell you what to do, or how to be, or what to think. My job is to help you discover those things for yourself and to figure out what works for you.

Are you just going to report back to my parents & teachers?

No. Academic Life Coaching establishes a confidential client-coach relationship between the student and the coach. I won’t share anything that is said in our sessions with anyone else without your permission. Confidentiality and trust are absolutely central to an effective coaching partnership. There is one exception, if I feel like you might be a danger to yourself or to others I have a duty to report that to people who can get you the help and support you need.

Do you do online coaching?

Yes, absolutely! Thanks to the internet I can coach online as well as face-to-face, so we don’t have to be in the same place or even in the same time zone to work together!

How much does it cost?

The real answer is, it depends on what service or services you are interested in. Please contact me through this website or by emailing me at goalsparkcoaching@gmail.com so that I can get a sense for what you are interested in and can then give you an better estimate of the cost. I generally suggest a minimum of 10 sessions, not including your FREE introductory session, but that is entirely up to you.
